Excessive arrogance is undesirable: causes, manifestations, and psychological correction methods.
For men, confidence and individuality are desirable, but arrogance is the one thing they absolutely cannot tolerate. Arrogance easily leads to pride and complacency, making you seem like a braggart or unreliable person; it stifles ambition and keeps you stagnant; arrogant people lack understanding of others and often lose many friends...
It can be said that arrogance seriously affects a man's mental health and way of dealing with things, thereby affecting his daily life, work and social interactions.
(1) What causes arrogance?
The following are the main causes of arrogance:
① Reasons for the experience
Some people have a smooth life from childhood. They are pampered, praised and commended by their parents and achieve academic success. After graduation and starting work, they experience few setbacks in life. Because things are too smooth, they are prone to underestimating their own abilities and exaggerating their abilities, which naturally leads to an arrogant personality.
② Reasons for understanding
Arrogant people minimize their weaknesses and exaggerate their strengths. They lack self-awareness, overemphasize their own strengths, overvalue their own abilities and knowledge, and disregard the abilities and knowledge of others, thus developing an arrogant mentality.
③ Emotional reasons
Some people have a particularly strong sense of self-esteem. In order to protect their self-esteem, when they encounter setbacks in their interactions with others, they often develop two types of self-protective psychology: one is inferiority, which avoids being hurt by isolating themselves from the outside world; the other is arrogance, which obtains psychological satisfaction by amplifying their self-esteem.
(2) The behavior of an arrogant person
Arrogant people are prone to being haughty and overestimating their own abilities. In daily life and interpersonal interactions, they exhibit the following similar characteristics:
① Stubborn to one's own opinion
They always think they are superior and that others are inferior. They always elevate themselves while belittling others, viewing them as worthless. They always center their opinions on themselves and force others to accept or comply with them. Even when they know others are right, they are unwilling to change their attitude or accept their viewpoints.
② Doesn't care about others
Arrogant people rarely care about others and maintain distant relationships. They tend to act in their own self-interest, disregarding others and lacking enthusiasm. They seem to expect others to serve them, thus having few true friends.
③ Excessive defensiveness
Arrogant people are prone to jealousy. When others achieve more than they do, they become extremely envious and even resentful. They easily gloat over others' failures and refuse to help them. At the same time, when others succeed, such people often use "sour grapes" to maintain their psychological balance.
(3) Correction of arrogance
To get rid of arrogance, one needs to treat everything in life with rationality, optimism, and tolerance.
① Enhance self-awareness
To gain a comprehensive understanding of oneself, one must not only recognize one's strengths and advantages but also one's weaknesses and shortcomings. One must not be blinded by a single leaf and fail to see the whole mountain. Self-understanding cannot be done in isolation; it must be examined within the context of society. Everyone has their own unique qualities and areas where others lag behind. One must recognize one's own and others' strengths and weaknesses from all aspects.
② Learn to accept criticism
Accepting criticism is the best way to cure arrogance. The fatal weakness of the arrogant is their unwillingness to change themselves based on others' opinions. Accepting criticism can overcome this. However, it doesn't mean forcing the arrogant to submit to others, but rather accepting only correct viewpoints and changing their previously stubborn self-image.
③ Treat people equally
No one wants to conform to others in both ideas and actions, so arrogant people should not treat others with such demands, but should interact with others as equals as ordinary members of society.
