Prevention of low libido: Couples should strengthen emotional communication and create a positive living atmosphere. Sexual activity should take place in a safe, comfortable, quiet environment free from external interference. Ejaculation should occur with each act of intercourse. The female partner should actively cooperate during intercourse, striving for synchronized orgasms to avoid disharmony. Intercourse should not be too frequent to avoid post-coital discomfort and, over time, aversion. Changing sexual positions regularly can maintain novelty, stimulate sexual interest, increase physiological pleasure, and promote psychological harmony. If temporary disharmony occurs due to anger or illness, the man should not doubt his sexual function, and the woman should avoid expressing displeasure or resentment, as this can create psychological burden and, over time, decrease libido. Avoid taking medications such as clonidine, phenytoin sodium, reserpine, and anti-androgens. Actively treat underlying conditions that can induce low libido, such as chronic prostatitis, diabetes, anejaculation, and premature ejaculation. Maintain a balanced diet, regular sleep schedule, exercise, abstain from smoking and alcohol, and preserve physical and mental health. Eat more foods such as turtle, fish, black-boned chicken, mutton, and dog meat.
Hypersexuality manifests as excessive, rapid, and intense sexual arousal. If this arousal is not met, symptoms include general discomfort, dizziness, insomnia, weakness in the limbs, and a blank stare. The sexual desire is intense, even to the point of being indiscriminate in any situation, regardless of familiarity or intimacy. The sexual response is abnormally strong; even hugging or kissing can produce intense orgasms. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is called "flower obsession." The main causes of hypersexuality include: ① Endocrine disorders. Problems in any part of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. ② Overactivity of the sexual desire center in the brain or hypothalamus. ③ Excessive secretion of anterior pituitary gonadotropins or testicular androgens, such as anterior pituitary adenoma, testicular interstitial cell tumor, or hyperplasia. ④ Pituitary tumors. In the early stages, these can reflexively cause excessive secretion of growth hormone. ⑤ Hyperthyroidism. ⑥ Mental abnormalities, such as mania. ⑦ Other causes. Related to socio-psychological factors, such as excessive indulgence in sensual pleasures and sexual activity. Prevention and treatment of hypersexuality: ① If clinical examination confirms the patient has schizophrenia, brain or pituitary tumors, they should consult a specialist hospital. ② If no organic lesions are found after hospital examination, a reasonable lifestyle should be arranged. Couples can appropriately separate for a period of time to reduce sexual stimulation and devote more energy to study and work, which is an effective way to overcome hypersexuality. ③ If the cause is menopause, endocrine disorders, etc., sedatives can be used first to eliminate pathological delusions and reduce factors that arouse impulses. Tribromide tablets, chlordiazepoxide (Librium), diazepam, meprobamate (Malton), chlorpromazine, etc. can be tried first. If ineffective, hormone therapy can be considered. ④ Hormone therapy: Diethylstilbestrol 5 mg daily, orally, for 2 months. Because this drug may cause adverse reactions such as male breast hyperplasia, breast enlargement, and testicular and penile atrophy, this therapy must be carried out under the guidance of a doctor, and the course of treatment should not be too long. A more effective and harmless treatment is to use LHRH agonists (luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone).
